Social Media Image and Video Sizes for Every Platform (2026 Cheat Sheet)

The two sizes that cover most posts

Before the platform-by-platform list, the shortcut:

  • Vertical video: 1080 x 1920 (9:16). Works as an Instagram Reel, TikTok, YouTube Short, Facebook Reel and Story, and on Threads and Bluesky.
  • Feed image: 1080 x 1350 (4:5). Works on Instagram, Facebook, Threads and Bluesky, and displays well on LinkedIn in the mobile feed.

Design at those sizes, keep text and faces in the middle 80% of the frame, and one file will look right almost everywhere. The exceptions are YouTube thumbnails, landscape link images, Pinterest pins and Google Business Profile, covered below.

Instagram

  • Feed: 1080 x 1350 (4:5) recommended; 1080 x 1440 (3:4) matches the profile grid; 1080 x 1080 square still works.
  • Reels and Stories: 1080 x 1920 (9:16). Reels can be up to 3 minutes when uploaded in the app.
  • Carousels: up to 20 slides in the app (10 through scheduling tools), all cropped to the first slide's ratio.
  • Profile picture: 320 x 320.

TikTok

  • Video: 1080 x 1920 (9:16). Other ratios get black bars.
  • Photo posts: 1080 x 1920 is the cleanest. Square and 4:5 images work but show with bars. Up to 35 images in one photo post.
  • Safe zone: keep text out of the bottom fifth (caption and sound) and the right edge (like, comment and share buttons).
  • Length: most accounts can upload videos up to 10 minutes; some can upload longer.

YouTube

  • Regular video: 1920 x 1080 (16:9), or 3840 x 2160 for 4K.
  • Shorts: 1080 x 1920 (9:16) or square, up to 3 minutes.
  • Custom thumbnail: 1280 x 720 (16:9), at least 640 pixels wide, JPG, PNG or GIF, under 2 MB. (YouTube Help)
  • Channel banner: 2560 x 1440, with logos and text inside the center 1546 x 423 area so they show on phones.

Facebook

  • Feed image: 1080 x 1350 (4:5) for the most space on mobile, or 1080 x 1080.
  • Reels and Stories: 1080 x 1920 (9:16).
  • Link preview image: 1200 x 630 (1.91:1). This is set by the website you link to, through its Open Graph image.
  • Page cover photo: 820 x 312 on desktop. Phones crop the sides, so keep the important part in the middle.

LinkedIn

  • Landscape image: 1200 x 627 (1.91:1), the same shape as a link preview.
  • Square image: 1080 x 1080 takes more room in the mobile feed than landscape.
  • Multi-image posts: up to 20 images.
  • PDF (document) carousels: each page shows as a swipeable slide. 1080 x 1080 or 1080 x 1350 pages are the common choice.
  • Video: keep it between 3 seconds and 10 minutes, the range LinkedIn accepts everywhere. Horizontal, square and vertical all work.

X (Twitter)

  • Single image: 16:9 (1600 x 900) shows uncropped in the timeline. Square 1080 x 1080 also works well.
  • Multiple images: up to 4 per post. The timeline crops them into a grid, so center your subject.
  • Photos: up to 5 MB; JPG, PNG or GIF.
  • Video: up to 2 minutes 20 seconds without Premium. Premium accounts can upload much longer videos.

Threads

  • Images: 1080 x 1350 (4:5) or 1080 x 1080. Threads is flexible with ratios.
  • Video: 1080 x 1920 (9:16), up to 5 minutes.
  • Carousels: up to 20 photos and videos in one post.

Bluesky

  • Images: up to 4 per post. 1080 x 1350 or 1080 x 1080 display well.
  • Video: one per post. Bluesky has raised its length limit more than once, so check the current limit before uploading long clips.
  • Alt text: Bluesky prompts for it on every image. Fill it in; it helps accessibility and search.

Pinterest

  • Standard pin: 1000 x 1500 (2:3). Taller images may get cut off in the feed.
  • Video pin: 9:16 or 2:3.
  • Carousel pin: 2 to 5 images, all in the same ratio.

Google Business Profile

  • Post photo: a landscape 4:3 image such as 1200 x 900 works well. JPG or PNG, between 10 KB and 5 MB, at least 250 x 250.
  • Google Search and Maps can crop the edges, so keep the subject centered.
  • post bridge posts text with one photo to Google Business Profile. For video, use Google's own interface.

How to make one file work everywhere

  1. Shoot or design vertically at 1080 x 1920. Vertical is the native shape on four of the biggest platforms.
  2. Keep a safe center. Leave the top and bottom 250 pixels and the right edge free of text, so platform buttons never cover it.
  3. Export a 4:5 version of your key image for the feeds.
  4. Make platform-specific assets only where it pays off: a YouTube thumbnail, a Pinterest pin and a LinkedIn landscape image.
  5. Export clean files with no other app's watermark.

Then publish them in one go. post bridge takes one upload and publishes or schedules it to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky and Google Business Profile, converting media where a platform needs a different format. You can also give each platform its own caption in the same post.

FAQ

What is the best image size for all social media?
1080 x 1350 (4:5) for feed images and 1080 x 1920 (9:16) for vertical video work on almost every major platform. Use landscape 1200 x 627 for LinkedIn link-style images and 2:3 for Pinterest.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
1280 x 720 pixels, 16:9, at least 640 pixels wide and under 2 MB.

Can I post the same vertical video to TikTok, Reels and Shorts?
Yes. A 1080 x 1920 video works on all three. Shorts can be up to 3 minutes, Reels up to 3 minutes in the Instagram app, and TikTok allows longer.

What image size does LinkedIn use?
1200 x 627 for landscape images and 1080 x 1080 for square. Square images take up more room on phones.

Why do my images look blurry after posting?
Most platforms recompress images and scale anything wider than their display width. Export at the recommended width (usually 1080 pixels) as a high-quality JPG rather than uploading a huge file.
